Google Analytics for Independent & Small Business
How to get Google Analytics for your business
Sole traders, independent businesses, small businesses all share a common theme. You never have enough time, and the time you do have is spent, quite rightly, focused on your main business work.
So if you have a website that is there as a shop window, or if it is the main source of income, then analytics is important. But learning new tools and being confident you have the right answers from the questions you set out with is time consuming and often incredibly confusing. Google Analytics, and web tracking in general has a steep learning curve and it is not for everyone.
Hiring in specialist help can be a bit like finding a reputable plumber or mechanic, the good ones are always unavailable, and they always talk in a language that sounds like english but never quite makes sense, except that you know it will cost more than you might be comfortable spending.
3 things to look for when hiring a Web Analyst
Someone who listens to you. From this side of the desk, it’s all too easy to fit solutions before fully understanding the needs of the business. A good analytst will hear you out, and take the time to understand how your website fits into your business, and what you need back from your website.
Someone who can explain in simple terms. It might be a cliche, but it is true. Someone who can explain a complex thing in simple terms that are easy to understand demonstrates a confidence and deep understanding of the thing they are explaining. Google Analytics can be complicated at times, so finding someone who can break it down using plain english gives you confidence in the work they do.
Someone who documents everything they do. There’s no easier route to feeling you’ve been mugged off than when the bill comes and you cant find out how the figure came to be. A good analyst will write down every step, detailing what each change does, how long those changes will take and what you should expect.
Always agree on when the work should be delivered by, and how and when payment will be made. It’s difficult beause for a Web Analyst to work they often need administrator access to your website and associated platforms. This level of access should not be given out lightly.
A good Analyst can transform how you look at your website, and even how you understand your business.
